Hello!  Welcome to the Community Learning Center of Northwood website!

Our Before-school STARS program runs from 6:30-9:00 a.m. and our After-school STARS program runs from 2:30-6:00 p.m. on all days that school is open.  On scheduled 2-hour delay days, the morning program remains open until 11:00 a.m.  Our summer program hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  We are located at Northwood Elementary in the cafeteria.  We serve students kindergarten through sixth grade of the Northwood school district.

Our typical after-school schedule starts with a nutritious snack, comprised of an individually-wrapped item and fruit or juice.  We then support students to work on their homework, reading, and SuccessMaker.  SuccessMaker is a fabulous computer program designed to help students practice and improve their math and reading skills.  We then have gross-motor activity  time for the students which is held outside on the playground or in the gym.

After this, students participate in Challenge Centers, hands-on learning activities.  We have a wide array of activities within these Centers, including Art, Cultural Studies, Reading/Writing, Health and Safety, Math and Problem Solving, Science, and Service Projects.  After our Challenge Center sessions, we offer a bit of time for students to participate in free choice activities.

Two or three times per week, students participate in a character development program called Positive Action.  This is a research-based program that teaches students to make positive actions in their behavior.  The students learn about making positive choices through stories, activity sheets, crafts, and role-playing.

The morning program runs in a similar fashion. Students are provided a light breakfast as part of their Community Learning Centers participation. Students are offered time to finish up homework, practice spelling words, or review for tests. During this time children are also taking turns on SuccessMaker and participating in the morning Challenge Centers.

We offer similar activities in the summer program in addition to educational field trips on Tuesdays, and swimming at Woodville Pool on Fridays.

Thank you for visiting our website!   I hope you will have your child join us as one of our Before/After-school or Summer STARS!
