Hello!  My name is Colleen Maher and I would personally like to welcome you to the Community Learning Center of Genoa Home Page!

We offer a daily STARS program for elementary-aged children of Genoa Area Local Schools. Our After-school STARS program serves children from school dismissal until 6:30 p.m. all days that school is in session.  We also serve the Early Dismissal Schedule.  Our Summer STARS program is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday during the entire summer break.

Our typical After-school STARS schedule starts with gross-motor skills time for the students and is held outside on the playground or in the gym depending on weather.  We then have a nutritious snack which consists of an individually-wrapped item along with fruit or juice.  We then support students in working on their homework.  Our daily academic routine also consists of 15 minutes of reading time.

After the homework period has ended, students participate in Challenge Centers, which consist of a variety of progressive hands-on learning activities, linked to state curriculum standards.   We also provide time for the children to work on a computer reading and math skills program called SuccessMaker.  The program has the ability to track your child's progress in a given subject and give them practice on the things they need most.  It also accelerates them when they have mastered a task.

The Challenge Centers include Art, Cultural Studies, Reading/Writing, Health and Safety, Math and Problem Solving, Science, and Service Projects.  After our Challenge Center sessions, we offer a bit of time for students to participate in free-choice activities, where the students can work on their art, build skyscrapers with our Legos, K'Nex, and Keva Blocks, or challenge their friends to a board game.

Two to three times per week, STARS students participate in a program called Positive Action.  a research-based curriculum that teaches students to make positive choices in their behavior.  The students learn about making positive choices through stories, activity sheets, crafts, and role-playing.

We offer similar activities in the Summer STARS program which is open 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for the entire summer.  The ONLY time we are not in session during the summer is the 4th of July.  In addition, educational field trips are taken on Tuesdays, while field games and swimming at Woodville Pool are taken on Fridays.

We look forward to serving your child in our After-school and/or Summer STARS!  Above, you will see a tab that will lead you to enrollment forms that need to be completed and submitted before attendance can begin.
