Welcome to the website for the
Community Learning Center of Eastwood
at Luckey Elementary
!

Our Before-school program runs from 6:30-9:00 a.m. and our After-school program runs from 3:30-6:00 p.m. on all days that school is open.  On scheduled 2-hour delay days the morning program remains open until 11:00 am. Our summer program's hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  We are located at Luckey Elementary in the cafeteria.  We serve students kindergarten through sixth grade throughout the Eastwood school district. Fifth graders may only attend the after-school session as their school day and corresponding bus schedules begin too early for participation in the STARS morning program.

Our typical after-school schedule starts with a snack which consists of an individually-wrapped snack, fruit or juice.  We then offer time for students to complete their homework, reading, and SuccessMaker - fabulous computer program designed to help students practice and improve upon their math and reading skills.  We then have gross-motor skills time for the students and is held outside on the playground or in the gym.

After this time, students participate in Challenge Centers.  We have a wide array of activities within these Centers, which we present to students.  These activities include studying and creating in Art, Cultural Studies, Reading/Writing, Health and Safety, Math and Problem Solving, Science, and Service Projects.  After our Challenge Center sessions, we offer a bit of time for students to participate in free choice.

Two to three times per week, our students participate in a program called Positive Action.  This curriculum is a research-based program that teaches students to make positive actions in their behavior.  The students learn about making positive choices through stories, activity sheets, crafts, and role-playing.

The morning program runs in a similar fashion. Students are offered a breakfast as part of their Community Learning Centers participation. Students are offered time to finish up homework, practice spelling words, or review for tests. During this time children are also taking turns on SuccessMaker and participating in the morning Challenge Centers. We offer similar activities in the summer program in addition to educational field trips on Tuesdays and swimming at Pemberville Pool on Fridays.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website!  Please contact Daryl Monceaux, Site Supervisor, at dmonceaux@wcesc.org or 419-575-4075 if you have additional questions.
